A window air conditioner packs the compressor, both coils, the fan motor and controls into a single unit. That design makes it easy to evaluate: one set of photos shows us almost everything. Why window ACs are easier to sell
- One unit, one evaluation — there's no separate outdoor unit to locate or match.
- Simpler removal — most window ACs slide out of their frame or wall opening once the panel and fixings are removed.
- More metal per unit — compared with a split AC's indoor unit, a window AC contains the full compressor and coils, so even non-working units retain material value.
How a window AC is evaluated
If it still works
We look at the brand, capacity, age, how well it cools and its physical condition. A clean, working window AC from a known brand may be reused.
If it is old or not working
The unit is evaluated for its components: the compressor, copper or aluminium coils, fan motor and metal body. Whether the unit is complete is important.
Condition of the body
Window ACs face the weather from one side, so the rear can rust during the monsoon. Rust affects value but doesn't stop us from buying the unit.
What to tell us about your window AC
- Brand and capacity (often 1 or 1.5 ton).
- Approximate age.
- Whether it is working, weak, or dead.
- Photos of the front panel, the back (if visible) and the label.
- Whether it is still fitted in the window or wall.
- Your locality and floor.
Removing a window AC before pickup
If the AC is still installed, tell us when you enquire so removal can be discussed. Things to keep in mind:
- Window ACs are heavy; don't try to lift one alone from a high window.
- Disconnect the power supply before anyone works on it.
- The empty opening will need covering afterwards — plan for this if you aren't installing a replacement immediately.
